Here you’ll find some of the most important nature reserves in Central Africa as well as the continent’s second largest wetland surrounding Lake Chad. This territory has been inhabited by humans and their ancestors for millions of years. Since independence from France in 1960, Chad has suffered political and ethnic violence and with the Sudanese crisis in Darfur spilling over the eastern border, travel here is extremely dangerous.
