A thousand kilometres of virtually uninhabited jungle covers the northern part of this land as most Congolese live between Brazzaville and the short, Atlantic coast in the south.

This virgin forest is home to forest elephants, lowland gorillas, giant forest hogs, bongo, sitatunga and leopards. Lively bars and colourful markets in Brazzaville, idyllic, palm-shaded beaches in Ponte Noire and 2003’s peace accord mean this could well be the up-and-coming destination of Africa’s west coast.
