Reisinformatie: Belarus
This former Soviet state still has much closer ties with Russia than with the E.U., which borders it to the west.
Wide expanses of steppes with far apart villages are surrounded by birch dominated forests, though up to a third of this land is uninhabitable as a result of the 1986 disaster at Chernobyl (Ukraine). The native Slavic people have been foreign-dominated for over 500 years and though all the relating cultural influences make for a potentially interesting travel destination, today’s republic turned authoritarian state offers little positive outlook for the country’s 10 million citizens.
